Hdr Help Please...

Thankyou! I get as far as the tonemapping, then I am stumped .... not quite sure what 'tonemapping' is, nor what all the different options contained within that 'step' are ....
And, as I said, 'save as' doesn't give me options I recognise .....
Looking forward to a tutorial! In the meantime, I will try to find a moment this weekend to experiment again.....

The "Tonemapping" panel can be a little daunting if you don't understand what the parameters mean. They are much like what is done in Photoshop, but they are much more complicated algorithms for manipulating an image. Because 3 or more differently exposed images are used, or one raw file processed using different exposure settings, they are designed to bring together, so to speak, the images into one image that contains the entire dynamic range of the combined images. For an explanation of these parameters go to Open Source Photography: Parameters for tone mapping operators. By adjsuting, and experimenting with those adjustments, and then applying them, you will start to see how the finished product should look like. After making the adjustments that you want, click on the "Save As" button, and the dialoque box drop downs at the bottom should give you the choice of where you want to the file go, and the file format. If this does not work in your program let me know what you do see. t

Thankyou so very much for such great information. I had a look at the link you provided on tone-mapping and found it very helpful. I have attempted to create one HDR image ... but am not happy with it ... so won't be 'sharing' it at this stage!
I used a tripod, took 3 photos - all at different exposures - night time shot of the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Each of the individual photos is nice and sharp, but the final HDR image seems blurry .... I need more time to experiment - but at least I now know the steps, thanks to you.

I am also on RedBubble - I joined up sometime last year - first heard about it advertised on the radio here in Australia! I only have a few photos there, but will hopefully post more as I have time! (Same with here ... whilst I'm working, my time is soooo limited .. very frustrating!).

i tried searching this site for any info to do with HDR and it doesn't come up with a thing. mind you i find the search engine quite complicated so i'm probably not doing it right.

I'd advise Dynamic-Photo HDR for anyone starting out in HDR processing. Its not perfect, but it is pretty straight-forward to use.

I use 'Dynamic Photo HDR' I find it very good and easy to use. You can create HDR from a single RAW with three modified versions of exposure in CS3 and DPH, but it doesn't work quite as well as having three seperate RAWs shot by the camera. I think the reason is if you use one RAW you are tweaking it to pretend the camera captured at a higher and lower exposure. There is a lot of data in a RAW, but when I tried it in comparison it wasn't quite as good as three camera RAWs. It does work pretty well with one RAW though. See my test file I did of my house below. You can see more detail in the darker areas of the three camera RAW version.

hi me again downloaded that program demo thats som cool s@@t had a quick go with it and created a realy spooky theme with snow covered hill and a stormy beach but will take some practice to generate a super pic thanks again
