Thanks Jadon
I was wondering what the plug in might be like. I have found it annoying that it stamps the images and I wonder does the trail version do that also? So do you think the full version is better than using the plug in with photoshop? it appears you do. Before I try the trail version I shall experiment first with photosho[. It does seem rediculous having paid so much for CS3 it does not do as well as what other software can.

Hi Nigel, I have CS2 and I have one shot that is in my gallery which is of my back garden:
http://www.phototopix.co.uk/gallery/...035&ppuser=194
The whole HDR job was processed through CS2, this one turned out OK and I did a couple of others that I did in the house, they turned out ok too, but IMO many others I tried were not a patch on the Photomatix, maybe I was using it wrong but couldn't get the same results as in Photomatix, I tried the same images in both software, you can try it but it didn't work for me, Photmatix was miles better IMO.
The trial software stamps a watermark on all the images which did me head in so ended up buying the full version which has no watermark.
I know the photomatix plug in for Cs3 is bit cheaper than buying the seperate photomatix program, not sure if it is exactly the same as the seperate one like mine though, maybe ask photomatix.
I understand your predicament regarding the price of CS3 and then having to buy more software.
The choice... as they say...is yours.
Hope that was helpful Nigel.

Hi Mello;
I have been using Photomatix, and Dynamic Photo HDR for sometime, and I find that both have their Pro's & Con's. I am now experimenting with a (Free) program called "qtpfsqui" which can be downloaded from www.qtpfsqui.sourceforge.net

Sylmac,
I downloaded the free program you menitioned a couple of weeks ago, and found it quite easy to use initially .... but, I do have a dilemma - I don't understand the 'final' steps .... the 'tone mapping'. And I also don't understand what format to save the final product in.
On the night I took the shot of the Queen Victoria & opera house, I also took several shots of the harbour bridge trying to get the exposure correct. When I uploaded them to my computer, I could see that they had potential if I 'merged' them, as with HDR. I have tried - so far I have a nice, sharp image ... but am lost as to 'finishing off' ......

Hi Lenita;
I am not quite sure just what you mean by finishing off. Once you have applied the "Tonemapping" in that panel your finished image should be seen in the right hand image box. You then go up to the File menu bar, and click on "Save As". The box that pops up allows you to choose where you want the file (image) placed, and whether it will be a "Jpeg" etc.
I hope this is what you mean.

Hi Sylmac,
Sorry to be such an ignoramous .... I can't follow the steps to take in the tonemapping part of the 'procedure'. I don't understand the terminology!! And, when I tried 'save as' .. the options shown were unfamiliar to me, and didn't include 'jpeg' .... I'll have another look at it when I'm a little less busy and see if I can decipher it on my own rather than use up your valuable time trying to explain something when you aren't even sure of the question I'm asking LOL!! Sorry!
If I can't figure it out, I'll try and be more specific, and ask you again - probably next week ...
Thankyou for trying!

Hi Lenita;
Don't worry about bothering me, and you are not an ignoramous, thats for sure.
I have a little time on my hands, and I will try to come up with some sort of tutorial that will help you. This is the fun part of Photography, and post processing.
