Monitor colours
I try to calibrate my monitor as good as I can get it;banged on about this before, but just checked out some of my own images on a mate's computer and they looked washed out,not what I see on my screen. Can't see a way round this, but it's annoying to think that others might not see as intended, after all a clour photo is just that,it's important to me.Any thoughts?

What kind of monitor is it?
What is your operating system?
What do you use to calibrate it with?
What types of lights are in the room?
What colour are the walls in the room?
What colour space do you save your image as?
Do you up load with an ICC profile included?
Do you soft proof?
The questions are many but all are important to get the image off of your screen and onto another. BUT and it is a BIG BUT, if the other person isn’t doing and least half of what you are then it will never look the same. The best you can say is it left your screen looking the way it should and IF it is viewed in a colour managed / controlled environment then it will look the same!

Thanks for that.
Philips 170B,XP,photocal spyder, low lights, off white with tobacco and wine stains,Adobe RGB(1988),don't know how to upload with profile but images have profile embedded usually done at save time, not got my head around softproofing yet.As I said...Lightroom still a nightmare for me but could do that there if I can get it going.Could do in capture NX,then convert the NEF file I suppose.
Again many thanks .Like your b/w bridge shot by the way.

Kenny - did you get your callibration sorted?
i think my computer is in wrong position in the room - screen between me and the window. anyway i notice a difference between daylight and night time viewing with the light on. by the way i understand for web viewing you should upload sRGB not RGB - am i correct on this?

always a debate on RGB and sRGB. sRGB has smaller gamut than adobe 1998 RGB. however, unless being used for high repro/colour approval, not sure many would notice. i use adobe 1998 for everything and that works for me..
as for calibration, always calibrate in the light you work in, provided you dont have light shining directly onto the screen. i try to calib at least once a month..gretag macbeth is ours once done compare screen to a good print to finalise..

Monitor calibration is a big issue, but I have tried to make it simple by having a selection of my photos printed in colour and monochrome by Photobox (who I use all the time, I do not print any photos at home) I then adjusted my monitor to match the colours of the printed images and the Photobox calibration card as closely as possible, so now whatever I see on my screen is how my prints will come out.
OK this is probably not the right way to do it, but it works for me. The only flaw I can see in my set up is that I do not know how others are seeing my photos although we have four computers running in our house and all of my images seem fine on each monitor here. I also use sRGB from camera all the way through to printing.

SRGB for web and RGB for print is correct. Try using the Adobe calibrator (if you have PS)?? its better than nothing.
