Default Downhill Mountainbiking

Photographers Comments
Another shot from the Dragon Downhill Mountainbike event that I went to a few weeks ago. I know that I have cut the bottom off his front wheel, but felt that it did not effect the final image.

Good dramatic shot and great colours. A little bit of panning might have given a sense of speed... and these buggers do move...

Hi Rob, thanks for your comments, yes they do move, that is why I chose a corner so that they had to slow down a bit. You are right about the panning, that would have given a good sense of movement, must try that next time.

Great pic mate. If you really want picky crits then the tyre crop is one, but like Rob said those buggers move!
And the main bloke looks a little dark on my monitors, though I am still having issues even after Gretaging them.

The crits were ultra nit picky mate as you asked for the honest crit thing. For a ten second glimpse it is simply superb and you must be mad to get that close to a moving nutter on a bike. Your shots are always top notch buddy and the crits are really aimed at fine tuning.

Hi TCO, thanks for your comments, some of these riders had really nice bright colours, but most seem to like black (they must be the ones who have to do there own washing), so I agree with your comments on this one. Hopefully there will be some more racing down our way over the summer, so will go back and have another go plus maybe panning as suggested by Rob.

I noticed that a few other people were using flash, I had not even considered this as it was such a nice sunny day. Well this was my first time of trying to photograph this type of event, next time I will go better prepared and willing to try different techniques. It's all a learning curve.

I'd love to know how you get on. I read all the various techniques and wonder how much of it is practical. If you perfect this mate then maybe a tutorial on flash/action shots?

I will see how I get on first, I'm already got another tutorial in the pipeline.
