Mate, the first motorsport shoot I did think I took over 700 photo's.
There was 1 accident, I was eating an ice cream.

Nearly got this one, but not quite.

Thats just the way it goes, the first year i went to the gold cup someone came off over jefferies jump, the seat flew over my head he came past us on his A**E at about 80mph and his bike was smashed to bits.He picked himself up and came to the crowd to ask for a fag and stood there smoking to quite rapturous applause....wasn't into photography then so did'nt have a camera!!!Oh well Ce La Vie.....

During the season of 1994, I was commissioned by a private race team to follow them and the superbike league. I was given an open acces to all areas pass by the Donnington Park HQ. This allowed me into all access areas and all race tracks throughout that season, whether it was superbikes or tourers or formular 1. I loved it!!
I also found that the best selling photographs were the ones of the crashes. I would often come across the bikers, after a spill who would ask "did you get that"? If the image was a good one, it would be them and there team to be the first to place orders. Weird I know, I would have thought it would have been the images of the chequered flag on the finish line they wanted, but no. They seemed to always want the ones of the spectacular crashes.
Tip: next time you attend these races, find the most dangerous areas on the track and wait. You should be guarenteed to photograph spills to sell onto the riders/drivers and the team.

Cheers Phil, can't get to close to the dangerous bits of the track as it's a road race and the terrain is a bit dodgy, will have to put my thinking cap on to try and skank a tog pass....hmm got a mate who works for a paper in lancashire (scurrilous thoughts).

Hmmm,
I got 4 or 5 of that lotus crashing, the driver went on the hillclimb forums asking for photo's. I emailed them to him for nothing as I thought the day had cost him enough already, maybe I shouldn't be such a soft touch?

I know what you mean mate! have done loads of stuff for mates and a few other folk and done it for free thinking well it's not that good.

But just lately have thought sod it they can't do it that's why they asked me, and i put the work in so why not get a few quid back??? so ask people you'll be suprised most will be only to pleased to pay (as long as you don't ask for the deeds to their grandma's house that is) and also i find it works wonders for your confidence when you get a bit of cash,a sort of pat on the back to say what your doing is'nt as bad as you thought it was....
