Just a quick shot from today, very heavy crop as you have to shoot from the next town and I cant buy lenses at the mo!

Looks very nice with plenty of detail in car, good colour and nice movement in the wheels. Could we see the original just to see how far you had to crop in.

Caveat: Batch resizing them ruined the sharpness.

I see what you mean by heavily cropping, but it still looks as if you got a good image out of it, now this is exactly the problem I have in deciding if to go for a D700 and crop in or go for a D300 where I will have the extra reach anyway.

Looks like you have some good weather for these shots, will you be there for the rest of the weekend.

Only you can decide. I do feel the D700 image is more robust when it comes to cropping, and it has made this lens sharper, seriously.
I think it's down to pixel density and the D80 out resolves the lens which struggles at 300mm. Maybe with your 300/4 the D80 would look better.
I have zero regrets that's for sure.
Yep I'll be there for the rest of the weekend, traveling every day, hopefully find Mello again tomorrow.
The weather was actually very overcast and the teams were reporting 30-40kph winds, Sunday is supposed to be the best for weather.
