Have you shot any larger venues mate? Would I use a different approach than in a smaller place?
I'm thinking whacking the speed up, slapping on the 2.8 70-200 and getting my arse as close as poss to the front. To be honest Nik, I can't see me being allowed to take pics with my kit and i'll probably have to go in with a discreet compact

I have but not since having my DSLR.
You will probably not be allowed to take your camera in to be honest.
You will need to be accredited and the only way I can see you getting this is from a publication. Maybe get in touch with a local news paper tell them your going to the gig and would they be interested in some pics if they are they may give you the accreditation you need this is a very slim chance but you never know. I am lucky as I work on the gigs I am there for the three days most of the time nothing to do lol so I can wonder around with my camera.
Hope that helps and best of luck...
Here are some taken with a 3MP compact that I had before my DSLR.

Thanks a heap for all the valuable info buddy.
