Slow?
Hi all,
For some reason I find photopix is slow to open, and slow to browse through - at least when compared to the previous photography site I belonged to.
Is there something I can do to speed up the process? Many times I want to take a quick look (since I am always pressed for time) ... but find I can't because of the minute or so that it takes to 'load'.
Anyone else notice this?
Might be something I'll just have to adapt to!
Lenita
PS I have broadband ... not using dial up .. and the speed of our connection is not an issue either ...???

Yes I find the same thing on the PC at work, but it's fast on the MAC at home, I find this in a few places not just Phototopix.

It's all running quite quickly for me on my works PC on our corporate network, the cable modem connection on my laptop at work and my ADSL connection at home. Speed issues can be really difficult to diagnose but if there are server issues, everyone will be affected and we are on a pretty meaty server with lots of free resources so we are fine there.
There are lots of things that can affect speed, general internet network traffic at the time, things you have running in the background using your bandwidth, network issues with a particular node with your ISP, problems with fiber lines running between different countries (our server is located in the UK)..... the list goes on and on.
I can only act on issues when the server is struggling or there are network issues at the data centre where our server is located in these cases I contact the engineers. Issues outside of these are normally always are caused elsewhere which I unfortunately cannot do anything about.

No Problems for me and i'm surfing at midday and there is a college 100 yards down the road and they are on the same exchange...
It can be so many various things that its hard to narrow it down.
How fast it is processor?
Have you got permissions and cookies set correctly?
Do you have many programs working at the same time?
Does it happen all day or just certain times?

Paul,
Thankyou for your reply. Our ADSL speed is 512k so shouldn't be an issue .... I guess I'm comparing it to other websites .... there is a noticeably longer time to open and browse photopix .... I can't pinpoint why this might be and wondered if others had noticed it - so far, there seems to be a couple of others but that is all ....
I'll monitor it to see if it is consistent (so far, it seems to be) or not.
Thanks again!
Lenita

Hello Lenita....I am new here but have noticed every once in a while when I click on something it loads very slow. When this happens I noticed if I click on the back arrow in my browser and reclick on what I am trying to se it loads right away. Art

I have noticed that the 'slowness' occurs mostly if I receive an email notification and click on the link ..... I'm now becoming used to it and simply do something else whilst waiting!

Hello there Lenita,
I'm still using the Internet Cafe at the moment and every damn thing is slow.... Even worse sometimes if I use their e-Mac (and I prefer the Mac) after typing out the comments they simply wont upload at all.....and thats very annoying.
It's true DPF did seem to be faster in every way, but then I was on my own computer which was faster than any of these old horses, and I only had dial-up because Optus was not compatable with Macintosh.
Oh! it's such a long story............in the end I was using a private Tele provider for just $15 a month and they were wonderful........and a fast as well.
Hope things get better,
Cheers,

I've noticed slow opening, and moving from image to image, and page to page as well on this site. I don't know why. Sometimes annoying, but I just get used to it and multi task.
