Lou if you have never taken fireworks before, this is what I do on a tripod cable release, Bulb mode, ISO 100, F/11, focused at infinity, wide angle at first to see though the eye piece which direction and how high they go then, move in to a less wide angle, both portrait and landscape formats, the length the time of the shutter is dependant on how long the firework lasts, usually about 8 to 12 secs, I open the shutter as I see the fire work going up, watch the firework as it starts to completely die back close the shutter,

advanced method, as above but leave the shutter open and cover the lens with a black piece of card till the next goes off and remove the card as it starts and then close the shutter, that way youll have 2 fireworks in the same image, I wouldnt do more than 2 as it gets messy, an example below

Click to toggle zoom

Ok Camera to manual focus, (usually a smal switch or through menu on some cameras) then turn the lens ring until it is focussed right out and there is a little symbol like a figure of 8 on its side and this is the infinity symbol. this lines with the mark on the lens.

Another Spanner In The Works; Thinking of everyone not just myself; I thought you might have extended the time limit for submissions till the following week-end as there are now three challenges finishing within a week of each other 2nd;5th;9th; To coin a phrase 'we all work and have busy lives' We'll be trying to submit entries for the 5th whilst trying to get shots and process for the 9th;Just a thought

Hi len its not compulsory mate, this is an additional challenge which we already extended the time on it was originally a short challenge for next week which due to a request we extended the open period. i probably wont have a go in this one to be fair. The landscape challenge was an additional one thrown in after member requests. The core challenges are the weekend and the fortnightly.

The time limit for submissions if you think about it is spot on, any fireworks shows or bonfires this weekend there is plenty of time to post. Any fireworks or bonfires on 5th Nov leaves 4 days to post any on the saturday leaves all day Sunday to post.

I dont see how we have not given enough time to be fair buddy. Originally it was open on the 5th closed the 9th.

PS Paul is working on changes that allow images to be taken during a set period say the weekend to satisfy a timed event but give additional time to process and post but he hasnt sorted quite yet. So this would be an answer moving forward.
