I have been experimenting trying to get a grainy BW film type look and would appreciate any comments.

For a grainy B & W look, I’d expect to see more general noise, globally over the image. Actually looking at the image in detail, I can see no grain at all, the only hint of not perfect smoothness is in the models face.
So sad to say I’m not seeing what you were trying to achieve.
On the other hand, the image as is, is a beautiful portrait and a great study of lighting, only thing I’d look at changing is I’d like to see the models eyes open and looking down. Obviously you don’t else that’s what you’d have posted.

Rog, I would have expected just a tad more grain as though on a higher ISO. Otherwise a striking portrait capturing not so much a shyness, but thoughtfulness. Nice shot!

I adore the softness of the side of her face. I also really like the lighting on the main piece of hair..soft but detailed. Overall its a lovely image but i'm not keen on the brighter patch of hair at the top left of the pic. Its only a minor thing and personal taste.
Nice image

Thanks guys really appreciate your comments.
I'm going to try and adjust this to make the 'grain' look better.

If you add about 4% of Gaussian noise to the face, 9% to the dress and about 11.5% to the background, you’ll be just about there.

A great shot Rog, Love it.
If you wanted to get more noise up your ISO setting or in photoshop select add noise, Having said that I would have been quite proud to have called that my own. Nice looking model too.

Thanks Paul.
She's a really great model and I was so pleased she let me take some pictures of her. She had just finished uni when I took this and I hope I can take some more of her another time.
