Nice shot, good eye contact, nice light. Slight tilt of the head might have worked as well - not sure.

hi Maureen...I'm like you, don't know a whole lot about this. Like the gentle backlighting on him. There is the right side where we are loosing detailing of the hair and has turned into a flat black and I would like to see more light in his pupils....SO wondering outloud, it a draped white sheet in front of him/behind you would bring that bit of more light to the front of his face?

Thanks Dennis glad you like it. The reflector sounds like a good idea and it's not expensive so all the better. Might get one of these after I've persuaded tother half to buy me some extension rings or a Raynox

I actually think the exposure looks fine, but if you want a little more light on his face and a catchlight, all you need to do is pop the flash...

I adore the pose...the way he is positioned and the look is priceless!
I do agree with a little more light being put into the face either bia a white reflector ( a sheet of white card will do it ) or a teeney bit of flash.
Actually Maureen I can get hold of sheets and sheets of white plastic reflective material. They are flimsy but can be made into a reflector for natural/flash lighting. If you want some let me know and i'll send some up. For the whole they are clean and ready to use. Some need a wipe over.
Just an idea. i have used them myself to coat the floor of grooming parlours when I do canine portrait days. Also I have used them for reflectors that i don't mind getting damaged on location portraiture.
let me know chum
