Photographers Comments
Took some photos of my mates kids using a brown curtain over the firplace and my SB800 flash.
My first go!!! so i wasnt very happy with the results but my mate seemed to like them (suppose theyre a bit better than a point & press LOL)
He chose this one for a frame so i did him a contact sheet (cheers Andy) with different versions for him to pick one.
Any crit/comments/advice would be most welcome and just for fun pick your FAV and let me know in your reply.

Ey Up Lyke....
bw is my fav mate but crop in a bit more on the RHS. Brighten the faces ever so slightly..poss crop the top as well
colour is good but needs to be punchier, duo's not working for me altho no.2 is ok. watch out for bold patterns like her top as they can be distracting to the eye.
having said all that, portraits of children are chosen for the emotion the give to people and how they make them feel. These 2 little cuties look great and they appear really relaxed for me mate

what they said! though i think i prefer duo2 to the B&W. the colour is too many colours to my eye and a slight crop to the top would work great.
excellent effort for first attempt

Cheers all for the input, since posting my mate has called and has gone for Duo2...which was the one i liked....
So have had a play with it,Andy have cropped and lightened the faces (how sucessfully i'm not sure) and after looking more closely have spotted lots of distracting hilights.
So have cloned out saliva spots in corner of mouth and on teeth, spots in corner of eyes, fingernail hotspot and have toned down the end of millies nose....think it looks much better now, though it looks a lot darker on here and not as sharp.
It really makes you appreciate the Pro's (Eos/Tco/PhotoPhil) it's really not that easy, and i'm only playing at it....

Top dollar yellomello, nothing wrong with that at all. it shows forward thinking to remove distractions from the shot. it also shows you give a damn about presentation, technique, attention to detail etc..
I try to keep up with what other photographers are doing, styles etc. i surf the web making sure that we as a company are still maintaining a forward progression with ideas, style, making sure we are providing the current trend and trying to predict it so we stay ahead of the masses. in doing so, i have found some really bad presentation of images online, bad colour, bad cropping, poor web layout/design, bad posing, outdated use of filters.
If you are just "playing" at this, then you my friend, are far ahead of a lot of so called pros out there.. keep at it matey, you aint doing nothing bad here..
Cheers EY UP chap

Cheers for the comments everone, great to have a pat on the back every now and then!!! i really am my own worst critique so getting feedback from others all helps with the learning process....
Talking of learning process i have sussed out my problem with printing the 8x10 but unfortunately because of the crop iv'e done it stretches sideways when i try to stick it in an A4 file.
So have had to make a frame 8x10 size my rectangular image (LOL) and move it into it then place this in an A4 document, printed and trimmed the photo to a 8x10 (but now with a border, BUGGER!!!)
It really got my goat trying to suss this out yesterday but now iv'e learnt my lesson.
1/ Set the constraints of the initial crop to the bloody size you want print the picture.
2/ DO NOT delete your original image once you've come up with a new edit.
3/ Keep in mind when framing shots in your shoot the size of prints you will be making later.
A costly but invaluable lesson....
PS: Sorry for the lenghty reply, but have posted this little essay in the hope it may help others to not make the same mistake as me....
