I love this image, would like to see the uncropped image to see how you have come to this image.
Did you take other view points and images of the entire cello.
Little girls would appear better if you was not resting cheek on the cello as her face looks a little squashed.

I don't agree (respectfully).
The girl resting her cheek on the instrument signifies a passion and an emotive link to the cello. It appears that she see's it more as a friend than an inanimate object, something she is involved with...a bond. This is the mark of a true musician. It shows they are part of the same and its not just a prop. She seems so relaxed and informal in the image, its wonderful.
I would not change a thing.

Its hard shooting in the studio when occasionally you get a child who has a talent like this you would love to spend ages getting the shot and pose just perfect..just under the hour in studio they get and that includes going through prices and booking their viewing etc. i would have loved to get the pose just perfect, avoiding slight ungainly skin ripples due to pressure of leaning etc but i am not unhappy with this shot. i love to hear what everyone has to say on this as it can only serve to make me more focused to improve when it comes around again
cheers everyone
thanks to shrek for looking after donkey even though he makes the fairy princess answer the phone in a very demeaning manner!!! (private joke)

Working in the professional classical music world, the last thing that a child is taught is to learn to rest totally irrevelant parts of their body on the instrument.
A true musician respects their instrument. I know the girl is only a child but this can do some serious damage to the instrument.

Very nice work Andy, how to improve it? Well I would like to see a little more definition between the girl's left upper arm\elbow and the white background. Also the shot seems more powerful and dynamic if the left edge is brought in close to the girl's head to make the image a portrait format.
I know some will disagree, it's just my opinion.

From an image, particularly this one, it is impossible to see if a child is applying any weight to the instrument. It is a pose for a photograph. She is not playing the instrument merely posing with it. If you look at the vast array of musician/instrument images on the net you will see the extremities,in some cases, that musicians will go to to appease the photographer. I am a trained pianist and worked in a professional capacity for 5 years as a studio session muso. I have images of fellow muso's which would make your hair fall out if you saw what they did to their instruments, classical and modern alike.
I feel on this occasion we must agree to disagree.
With best intentions as always...I merely feel you are wrong.
Does mean we can't be friends ?

yes you big girl you can.
I spent quite a while at the pppsssyyychoooo (thats how we said it) studio in conduit place, london. I nearly trashed their fairlight (very expensive keyboard..i'm talking 30k) but they were good times. Miss the music scene. Some of my chums still making vinyl for white label.
Its a great pic bro...Technicalllllly its bloody brilliant.
