The Lick...
Photographers Comments
At the risk of boring you all with my pictures of Fred...
I am trying to get something good enough to enter in an amateur photo comp.
To be fair, I am expecting most people on this site would win as the entries will not be coming in from people interested in photography.
I know its a brave crop but I recon its going to be different to most of the entries. The only thing is I would like his eyes to be a bit brighter, I think the near one is just about in focus.
Whatever happens the entry fee wont be wasted as its going to the Maine Coon Cat Club Rescue Fund.
I think the only prize is the photo appearing in the 2009 Calendar.

Maine Coon Cat Club?....is this in the States?....
Yes, the eyes are out of focus but I think you did the right thing by a tight crop because the muzzle is in such sharp focus:..this way it makes it look like this is intentional. People will love the selective color, which also brings the eyes to see that the muzzle is the subject. If you get on the calendar, I would love to know. I'm going to google this club

Nope, it's in the UK, but it is the Yankee cat.
Fred is a Maine Coon, we show him every once in a while, this weekend he earned his "Premier Certificate" at the show in Stratford. That means we can enter him in the Supreme cat show, which is like Crufts for cats.
Pedigree Maine Coons are much sought after here, I think you have a few in the wild over there? Your Yottie looks to have some of the features.

Hello Merv,
Nice shot, like the selective colouring works great.
Hope you get it into the calender.

There is something quite vampirical about this beastie. I love the colours, and the aggressive pose. My only serious criticism is that in view of what I've just said you persist in calling him Fred!!! I think something more appropriate is called for - 'Genghis'? 'The Slayer'? 'The Wild One'? 'The Terminator'? I'll leave it to you.

LOL sorry Rob, it's his name.
He is named after a missed Grandparent (Freda) and his pedigree name is Jemahan Frederico.

Fred's my husband!!!!! LOL Oh And Else's hubby is I think a Fred too!!!
Aside from the digs on this venerable name I think the shot works well...the cropping is perfect and definately worthy of a calendar.
Good luck in the comp Fred and Merv

i hate SELECTIVE COLOURING.
But this is good mate and it works so I LIKE IT!!! You have done such a neat and tidy job in p/shop you need recognition for that.
Detail, clarity and composition are excellent for a close in crop/shot.
If you had just done the eyes with colour this would not have worked....you did real good mate. The extra colour elements have tipped the scales in your favour. Really good image.

Fay and Di,
I was sure I responded to you, I remember looking for the meaning of the name, the most amusing I could find was
Quote:

also known as Monster Pig, a giant feral pig shot in 2007...
|
Now I feel rude for not replying.
TCO thanks, I'm glad you feel the same as I do on this one, I hate it too, but I think it was worth it this time...
Now I just wonder if I'll lose out to something more "cute" you know, like a cat wearing a suit or something...
