I really like the idea of using HDR on a photo like this rather than just the usual land/townscapes. I have to say the manhole cover didn't bother me until it was pointed out!
Not been able to do HDR myslef as my vesion of photoshop is too old and not sure I can afford to spend out on HDR specific software just to "play"

You can also try the trail version of Dynamic Photo HDR.
Dynamic Photo HDR, high dynamic range imaging software with Anti-Ghosting
