Photographers Comments
I love B&W and have been unable to produce passable images until this one which I am pretty pleased with.

The eyes are very powerful and you are drawn straight to them, your model is also very relaxed with you and it shows in this image. Also no distracting background as it looks as if you took this outside. Works very well in monochrome.

Thanks, I took this a little while ago. The model is my daughter who was off to a friends wedding. I took it in the garden, the light was pretty naff so used a little fill in.
It was OK in colour, but thought it would look better in B&W.
Andy I know what you mean about the highlights in the fur so will be aware of this next time. I was aware that with the fur being white the camera would under expose so tried to adjust for this.
I dont normally do portraits it's not an area that grabs me though I appreciate it is one I need to work on as it is a weak area.
Thanks for your helpful and supportive comments.

Hi Trev,
Good use of black and white here. DoF works well, enough to blur the background and draw the viewers attention to the model. Great focus on the eyes. The burn out on the fur has already been mentioned. It is also good to see that your model is posed at a slight angle, instead of the unforgivable straight on approach. This helps to add depth and shape as well as accentuate the neck, avoiding those horrible creases.
Great first post.

It looks pretty good to me Trev. Nice natural smile, good catchlights and excellent conversion to BW....
