Hi Else, thanks for the wow
No they aren't sharpened twice, just lifted the iris a bit in levels, being very careful not to touch the whites.

I keep coming back to this pic Merv so a couple of comments from little old me

Love the BW conversion and composition, those eyes are absolutely amazing... Giving eyes that sparkle can take time and is often over processed and you have really hit the nail on the head there mate.

Now that dummy..... yes it's a little distracting and it would be good to see it toned down a little, mayby some clever burning to make it less of a feature so you're taken more towards the eyes maybe.

Have you though about adding some grain to this shot?

Thanks Paul, really appreciate your feedback.

Thanks for the positive comments.

Good idea to try and tone it down a bit, I may have another look and see what I can come up with...

I hadn't thought of adding grain to this particular shot, but it is on my list of "things to learn". When I get to the bottom of what I'm after, there's a good chance I'll try it on most stuff. I've seen some fantastic grain, much better than add noise in PS but can't replicate it yet.

Merv,

I love this shot, its so evocative. I'm a new dad, and this picture actually stirs up some of the same emotions as when I look at my son, I think its that good.

The expression and the eyes are just fantastic. I thought you said you were a relative beginner, I picked this shot up from the list of most recent to critique and thought it must be by a pro!!

Absolutely love it

Regards
