Default Out of cam for Paul

Photographers Comments
Straight out of cam as Raw..converted to jpeg for web purpose only. No p shopping. This young fella would not keep still. I was moving constantly. Lack of space dictated the light being close which meant constantly changing aperture...Nightmare!!

What will you do that portrait now? You got anything special planned for it?

Yeah mate. Correct the exposure for starts. Remove all the crud. Pop the eyes a tiny bit and plus up the tonal range of the iris'. Enhance hair texture a tad. Strengthen the difference in the fall off. And pull a little more colour out of it. Then, and most important of all.....keep my fingers crossed

Hi Tco

What a lovely image!

I have a question - I think I followed most of what you just said but what does 'strengthen the difference in the fall off' mean?

Mu

The fall off is the transition of light to dark, also referred to as a light gradient. If the fall off is too subtle then the image can appear a bit flat, as it does here. I will just add some strength to this to try and get more 'form' to lose some of the flatness. This is done a variety of ways, the most common being good old dodge and burn with a BIG soft brush and single large sweeping strokes at a very low opacity.

Donkey boy I thought you already knew it (my world of chaos) bud? Which bit did you wanna know? Workflow from cam to jpeg or cam to final jpeg with all the tif work and p/shopping?

Yeah I think so. I did the weekly calibration Monday am. These are not as good as the old Lacies though. This was the last shoot with canon. Bloody focus let me down again, despite the fixation treatment. I'll stick summit up later

Thanks Tco that helps, this is all stuff I need to know. Would you mind sending me your workflow too - from cam to final jpeg.

As already said by Andy this is a great shot straight out of the camera, hopefully you will post the edited version at a later date so that we can compare the two.
