Another self portrait from my 365 daysproject.

I am trying to use more natural light (slightly forced by the fact that the bulb in my soft box has gone!) I like how this one turned out. Thankfully the alleyway by my house is covered so I didnt have to get wet to get the shot. The weather has been awful!

HI Beth,

Well you are certainly talking to the converted here, I am really enjoying your on going project and this image is no exception. The lighting / shadows are so subtle yet you have still managed to get an appealing catch light.

Moving around the image I’m struct by the repetitive space shapes, where ever I look, I’m seeing triangles and implied triangles in the posing of the subject, that are balanced by the repetitive rectangles of the wall.

The choice to have part of your bottom hand on show adds interest to an area that could have been negative space and forms a leading line that takes me to the upper hand. The bottom hand is a little bit to contrasty and I'd consider toning it down.

The only thing that causes pause is the space to the top left of the umbrella, while it does have an implied triangle, it also provides me with a stop to come back into the image.

Alistair

Yep, definately! Thanks for pointing it ou
The main problem of doing a self portrait every day is that I miss the little things like that!

Hi Beth,
The image now looks great with the alterations done. However, after studying it closer, I notice sharp edges around the umbrella and the hand holding it. Have you tried to use the selection tool or magic wand and the tried to either clone or tone down these areas. Plus an overspray of red to the right of umbrella. Maybe some fine alteration just to bring these small nit pics into line.
Regards....Phil

Yeah, that is me being lazy, I need to go back and alter the mask. The wall is a different exposure in layers. I'm going to tidy it up before I put in in my portfolio!
