Well Cobber, I am still stumped! I have 3 Cabbage Trees ... and now I ask ... are these Roots at the top or bottom of the Tree? There is a Root that grows out of the top of the local Cabbage Tree, edible and a delicacy.
Of course I knew all along what this was ... I wuz just too skeeeeerd to have a second guess unless I wuz punished

They grow out of the trunk, down to the ground where they bury themselves. I haven't tried to eat them but I will ask around.

oh please forgive Me Rex. It was on My Walk I realized I was talking a load of dribble (again) ... it is a SHOOT ... not a Root that is Edible. The Shoot comes out of the top, sorry for the confusion, and My Cabbage Tree is a different variety, straight Trunk into the Ground with no visible Roots, but those with such Roots are to be found in more Swampy areas. I have eaten the Shoot, a Maori delicacy ... it was bitter and similar to the Welsh Leek.
Gosh! I do hope I am not punished for the explanation
