The problem with this Rex is that if we dont get the actual name of the plant we cant win. Most on here are not gardeners and most are not from Tropical climates so, I think even if you were to show the whole thing most would not get it. The idea of what is it, was to take an object most if not every one would know and zoom into it so people could try to guess.

I dont think this will go very soon, I could be wrong though and generaly I am lol....

Ok, I understand, they are quite common here, in fact this is growing in my garden. Now I can post a picture of the whole plant or a larger crop. What would you like?

As a hint they have long spiky leaves which are dried and used for mats or bags.
