Sixteen,yes, sixteen (I didnt breathe for 30 secs) manually focused shots merged in Helicon stacking software. Processed in Photoslop.

Thanks for the comment. Helicon Focus is what you need (about 30 dollars and a bargain) It's really easy to use.

I did it to get the whole flower in focus. You don't have to do that, you could take enough shots to get say the front two thirds in focus then have the rest as a standard macro shot with fade out. Thanks for the comms.

Did my rawlplugs macro with it, got it on trial, did 6 shots all with narrow DOF and it combined them at the click of a mouse. not expensive either! This shot is the dogs doodies though!
