First try at Macro, caught this beatle eating my lillies

Hi Trev, nice shot but looks a tad blurry, i can see from exif it was quite a low shutter speed and a high f no (14) did you hand hold? i have found using a tripod even though its a faff increased my hit rate also using manual focus at smaller distances helps.

I may have either reduced the f no to f7 say or upped the iso to 400 to give a faster shutter. Good first try, i am hooked on small things myself since last week when i got my extension tubes. It is trial and error with settings but good first go mate look forward to some more from you.

Hi Trevor, agree with Dennis on this one as far as camera settings go. This looked as if it could have been a really nice image as that beetle had some really nice colour on it with those black legs. But as you say this is a first attempt and you have done well to capture it.

Yep its a Lilly beetle, and they go by their name, eating every lilly in their path, glad to see you are going macro Trev, i echo what the lads said above, re the settings, but if you dont want to use a tripod, try a beanbag, easily made with a bag and dried peas or similar.
