Like your close up of the Teasel head. It looks a little soft at the top and could perhaps do with a bit of sharpening and a levels adjustment to bring it out more. The border is also a little overpowering and a more subtle white one might make your image pop out more
I did have a go at editing but decided not to post it.

punchy, crisp and the BG works well. i agree the border is quite powerful but i am also guilty of said style! nice work!

Hi Trevor,
sometimes if a border looks too strong I use the colour picker to select a colour from the photo itself.
Also I don't know how you did the border but there is a little bit poking out underneath it, probably the easiest way to do a border is to increase the canvas size, that way you don't have to mess about lining stuff up to fit, do it by pixels or measurements (i.e. not percentage) to get a uniform border.
