Default Lily in Vase

Photographers Comments
Same little lily, this time using a brighter light at sunrise

I like this series of shots you are doing Fay, but this one i would prefer to be mirrored and have the light still come from the left..the colours are wonderful and the light on the glass shapes the bottom of the stem well

Thank you Andy...I understand about the light hitting the flower from the front but still not sure about the mirror; this always leaves me puzzled. My thinking was, that if I had the stem arching into the image, that this would suit the natural movement of the eye....and then, again, I do see it done the other way, at times, and it seems fine

Lik it very much, simple and direct. Don't mind about the direction of the light. The glass looks good. But I have to take issue with 'sunrise', surely some mistake there? Sensible people never get up before nine?

Yes Dennis, from Andy's perspective, it would be more pleasing if I had done that physically, for then I would also have the light hitting the lily from the front rather than the back.

I'm am now coming to the thinking that the direction of the light creates 2 different moods???

What a difference a pro makes...
I understood your confusion about Andy's suggestion earlier, now seeing it mirrored and lit from the wrong side I totally understand why he felt doing it would improve the photo.
How useful experience is, great call Andy.

Edit:
After some crude messing about, I somehow managed to swap light for dark etc. kind of marmalized the photo sorry, but people with a good imagination should be able to get a general idea.

i'm not following the logic...........Is there something wrong with my brain? What I'm trying to understand, is, why is it aesthetically better for the stem to come in from the left rather from the right?
