I think it's better for the front of the flower head to be lit, and going on your point of looking from left to right across the image the head is the lightest part so grabs the first attention.
Sorry I edited the photo without asking, I was sure it said Yes under your posts, oops!

No problem, at all. Maybe I can find a way to change that.
I choose that option when i first signed up and at that time was feeling cautious, til I could find out what I had just joined up with. Now, that i have a feel for this place and can see that that all are sane and that there are no power trippers, I would be very comfortable with someone editing my image.

seems i have created a right mess here!! sorry chaps and chapesses!! merv worked it out..
i wasnt too fussed which way the stem faced, but just wondered if the light coming from the opposite direction would create a more "open" feeling as the light hits the stem and the rest of the shots "appears dark" but from the other way the light would cross most of the shot and then falls on the stem..i know the whole will still be dark but its all visual and how the brains interprets the image..wow now i'm confused.com...lol does that make sense anyone..?

It does make sense Andy however I still would flip it back the same way Fay started because there is something about that composition that pleases me. That way I suspect you'd get the best of both worlds....does that make sense???
By the way Fay and I are both right brained......we did the test on Facebook LOL
