composition critique..Please
Photographers Comments
Ive been approached by a local eatery to put some of my work on their walls. I feel inadequate but certainly didnt say no!
I would like composition critiquing on this one. I have my own feelings but wont voice them..dont want to put ideas in your head...lol

Hi Fay, I think if you are trying to advertise the food them I think you need to see all of it. Then you may be able to add other things into the image to try and make it look more appealing.
Do you get to keep the samples .

its clean and sharp Fay nice colour etc but i think the angle for me is wrong.. And also would have licked a little more light on the fruit. I am looking at it from the POV of say on a menue showing a desert option.
Taking a lower angle but still including the top would make it look bigger as the cake would dominate the shot a little more.
But that said it looks good enough to eat....

Nice pic.
Shoot a variety of shots ranging from the entire dish to the really shallow depth of field pics that are really close in. If its a hot desert make sure it looks hot with steam coming from the freshly cut slice.
You are very creative Fay and i'm sure you will breeze this task. Use your imagination, vary the angle and DOF of the pics and always dab up a bit more colour saturation with food.

wow...justice was swift....LOL
..no what I meant was response was quick!!!...loveit
Actually, I was shooting shots of my food as I was waiting for a friend (some photographers just can't sit still)...in my own little world....It was afterwards that I was approached, and what they had in mind was 'anything'. They are extremely artsy people and they want to showcase local people (not loco..lol). Wonderful critiques!!!!!!...would never have thought of bumping up the saturation abit.
You guys were super!
Oh yeah...really, what I thought was bothering me the most was the angle/perspective...thought that perhaps it made it abit awkward and top heavy...just wanted to get a virgin viewpoint

I find myself looking at the cake and my eye goes straight off on the RHS without anything to bring it back again. As someone mentioned, try keeping all in or crop closer.
the technical aspect for me is great. as said above, good DOF sharpness etc.. bring on the final shots and lets all get hungry!!

Hi Fay
Maybe a dollop of cream or some fresh steaming custard would have encouraged the saliva glands even further. However, sadly, I fear if that had been the case, Nik would have eaten his monitor by now.. LOL
A good trick is to gently blow smoke through a straw onto the subject but outside the frame of the pic, to give the impression of steam and therefore heat.
