I personally like it, but most people I guess will say that it is too soft with no real focal point...

hi Rex...I have a little sermonette for you. Hang onto your 'critic'...pay her overtime...lol.......I hope that you can say that you have been bitten by the macro bug!....it is so fascinating....It was months after I had been bitten, before I could see that I was improving. Take LOTS of shoots...never give up (the real secret)...There are many things to watch for that you don't have to watch out for with other kinds of shooting. Lighting can often be a problem because you are in there, so close to your subject. Here, I feel that you got too close. I find that when I hand hold and I think I have it right in focus, that as I click the shutter, my camera goes just a titch forward; so now, I try to compensate by pulling back just a titch. Another thing, especially when starting out.....do lots of takes of the same composition...minimum 30...and then pick the best one. It really is alot of eye/hand coordination and that, happily will improve as you put in the work.

I like it mate. I like how soft it looks. Its almost abstract. Colour is good, maybe a tad too much of the red at the bottom. Composition is appealing for my taste also. All subjective remember . Nice image

Good composition. good crop. i agree with shrek about-sorry TCO-about the red at the bottom. top right is perfect, bottom just a little too much. draws the eye downwards too quickly. colours are great. very smooth

Thanks everyone for the kind comments. Well, the red at the bottom is easy to deal with, I will look it again.
Tco, where in Cornwall are you. I used, many, many years ago, to live in Helston. I spent many happy times around the Lizard Peninsular.
Fay, thanks for the lecture. As for my best critic, whats hers is hers and whats mine is hers, so what more can I offer<g>. About the picture, I have taken about 20-30 shots of this, some on a tripod and some handheld, some close and some further away. This I think was handheld. Like you, my critic thought it was too close, but I liked the soft look. I might post some others but I don't want to flood the site with mediocre shots. I will probably wait until I can get something better.
Thanks again, Rex

Hi Rex....glad you didn't pound the living daylights out of me...but I'm sticking to my story. In this case, it really is subjective; I know there are those who like 'soft'....for the most, I'm a 'sharp' girl.
Please DO NOT pull back in uploading your new ventures into Macro...this is what this forum is for....if there were elitest attitudes I for one, wouldn't be here. I say it, as I see it but only to encourage: I still vividly remember my first few month in Macro...it's like falling in love...discovering something totally new.

Rex i'm just outside of Newquay. I was in Hayle last week as a good friend of mine lives there. There is a huge photographic company called Tempest based there. Were they there when you lived there?
I used to kayak the turbulant water at the inlet in Hayle. The place has changed over the years. It is being developed further as we speak.
The Lizard is a wonderful place. many unvisited places in the summer. We used to spear fish off of church cove. Amazing place.
If you notice all these activities fall in to the 'used to' category. its because I am now a fat bloater who has turned his back on excercise in favour of fine wine and chocolate!!! Yum Yum!!
Oooops tco strikes again! You said helston!! not Hayle!...Prussia cove was down your way I think...sorry Rex, been a long night.
