Insects like this in flight are notoriously difficult and this is a good attempt. I once shot a whole roll of film of bees, waiting excitedly for them to be processed and was then extremely disappointed when every one was a blurred unrecognisable image. Thank goodness for Digital.
The fast shutter speed has caught the bee's motion well, it's a shame it's not absolutley tack sharp but it is very difficult to get perfect focus an an object that small, moving that fast. To reduce the amount of luck you need I've found that a flower which attracts one creature is likely to attract another, so I've been known to see a bee on a flower, focus on the flower and wait patiently for the next bee, this is a good technique for butterflies too, far more effective than chasing them. If it's a bit breezy a handy twig stuck in the ground and attached to the stem with a plant tie just out of shot keeps the head right where you want it. Going back to your image I like that the background behind the bee is quite dark the bee contrasts nicely. cheers Daniel
