Spurred on by Tawnys great article about the way she approaches her Macro photography,I got hold of a rather old Canon 28/70mm AF lens(they type were the filter thread disappears into the barrel, which is a pain). I opted for the 70mm end (cos the filter thread was all the way forward) I then preset the focus and using 2 masking tape (I cant help being common) fixed both in that position.
Using rings and an old Centon non dedicated ring flash doing some test shots.
Now all I need is practice (and lots of it)

I like Your "common" description. This turned out quite good, sharp and clear ... Masking Tape is the new "anti shake device" :]

A couple of drops of super glue will hold him still with you snap away and allow for some long exposure shots for movement on his legs

Ian this is terrific! and your method and technique to be applauded.
I take it this woodlice was on someones hand? sorry if im wrong, just looks the same colour and texture, but it may have been more effective on a more contrasty background, ie cream so it shows more of the woodlices true colours.
None the less excellent, and great to see more macro images here.
