Hi Trevor, Macro is a whole new world and once you have mastered it, you can produce some wonderful images (like you I'm still trying to get my head around it). Anyway back to your image, your focus point seems to be just in front of the insects head as his right front leg and leaf seems to be well focussed but the rest of him is a bit soft, maybe a smaller aperture would have worked here, background is nice and soft, but colours seem a bit strong on my monitor. But still a good photo, and I'm sure that you will get even better ones with more practice.

i had a brief go at macro with a cheap filter lens but it is amazing how shallow the dof gets, so i can understand your softness. the image still works tho so keep up the good work
