Losing the trees from the background works a bit, but i think it really needs that little dark area around the tree kept (and even some of the rusty-coloured shrub, if possible).

i know what you mean but those shrubs had the trees behind them and they were very dark and looked weird when the rest was removed

Now this makes it a totally different image, where the tree is very dominate. And I must say that I like it very much.

blimey, missed this one. damn fine shot. love my wiiiiiide open space shots and this is tremendous! great colours and lovely composition....10/10 Top Dollar!!
