What are you talking about mate, it's a very good capture indeedy. Dull conditions maybe but it has resulted in nice lighting on the bird with good detail and an attractive subued background ... what's not to like? It could only be cooler in the bird was sporting a pair of Ray Bans ..... now there's a thought

Hi Dave and Andy Thanks for the posts... The bird has been slightly sharpened and the back ground was a good deal back from the bird and I was panning when I took it. So Dont know if this might make a difference?
I used my 90-300 lens on this one and it was so hard to get a shot in focus and of the whole bird lol.

Nice one mate. Really sharp for me and I like the way the BG is blurred.
Cheers.

Hi Nik, well caught, nice and sharp, you can see his/her eyes and nicely composed leaving a gap on the right of the image. And with the background being soft your eyes stay on the main subject.

What are you on about Nik, its great! the panning definately gives the separation effect, thats what i love about this technique, you have great detail and focus and just enough motion blur in the wings, great job!

Wow thanks all for the comments. Bev in my eyes you are the best at bird shots.... But as always I am glad you like it. I must be honest I think it was luck more than technique though. I used rapid shot on my 400D and had loads of attempts. Focus was the main problem for me though...
