What a handsome chap and how well you have captured him. He's as sharp as a sharp thing, colours are great and plenty of detail in the feathers. Just a pity you didn't quite get all of the tail in the shot and not sure that the tree trunk is adding much ..... but these are small points on an otherwise very good capture indeedy. Nice

Hi Dave,

Well there are subjects that allow you time to look around the viewfinder and imagine how the finished image will look before you press the button and there are those that don't (like birds on a perch which can fly off in a tick) ..... better to bag the shot and hope you've captured it as you'd like than wait too long and to snap an empty frame . Landscapes don't move

Agree with everything dave says, try multiburst mode if the camera allows it. Birds are here one second and gone the next, so i fire off 2-5 shots or more in one go then pick the sharpest and the best (if i get any!). Nice picture though mate like it.

Hi Dave, nice sharp image with good DOF leaving the background nice and soft, which keeps your eye on the main subject, that tree truck is not helping the image at all, I would crop off about a 1/3 from the left, so that it leaves the bird looking up and into the image, pity about the tail but as already said these birds will fly as soon as you press that shutter. Well done, we will look forward to seeing more from you.

Hi Dave. I have to agrre with the other coments about the tail and tree. Other than that great shot. You have gotten great detail. Captureing wildlife is not easy. You have to have a lot of patience and a little luck. Keep shooting. For some inspiration check out some of the pictures taken by Tawny (Bev) Her work is incredible. Art

This is a very good effort Dave,
the minor points are worth mentioning, but you have the basics sorted here, it's so difficult to get these sharp but you managed it.
Cropping the tree out does help and is an easy fix
