This was taken with a Panosonic FZ7 just before I upgraded to a DSLR

Hi Trevor,
The colour, exposure and apperture has worked well here, but this has been at the expense of the blown out areas in the white of the clouds. I was unsure as to whether this had been on a natural incline L - R however by following the line of clouds I can see that the horizon is not straight. I personally would position the cross slightly off center either L or R just to add a little more interest. If you have the oppertunity to return with your DLSR, you will have the benefit of being able to re-position these minor imperfections through the view finder before releasing the shutter.
