Hi len looks like your white balance is set to shade giving a yellowy orange glow to your lovely black bird ... if you are shooting in RAW you can change this with no problems!
you may want to sharpen the image a little? i find unsharp mask on photoshop works well.
its hard shooting animals they are notorious for moving just as you shoot you have done a great job here, i find nuts or seeds are great to keep them happy as you edge in for that close up

Well Len its a female blackbird that much i know. Drab brown plumage compared to the striking black of the male.
The first thing that springs to mind is the leaves behind are sharper than the bird.
...and thats it really mate!
Its nice and close. The colours for a female blackbird look fine on this monitor at least, maybe a tiny bit overexposed. But taking into consideration where you are at present my friend I would say you are progressing nicely and should be smiling about now.

If you know in advance what kind of image you are going to take then have a good old hunt on the internet for other images similar to that which you want to take. Find the one that really catches your eye. Emulate it. If you don't manage to then ask why? then shoot again.

Once you master replication of images that you admire then put your own creative vein to the work. It sounds easy huh mate...... it 'aint!

But its a lot of fun buddy.

I am enjoying your enthusiasm and actually seeing you progress with each image. nice one buddy
