Hi Else

Thanks for being 'Kind'

Used trial version Photomatix Pro 3.

I took the shots yesterday just so as to have a mess about with HDR.

Really I'm still getting used to my DSLR.

Hi Len,
I think you could have done with pointing the camera up a little, so that the horizon doesn't cut the photo in half. I like the placement of the trees and the single flower standing proud amongst the rest.

I have to admit, I'm not sure the HDR has done anything for you here, it all looks pretty normal lol. HDR is best used where there is a vast contrast between light and dark, such as Phil's shot inside the pub where it was pretty dark but there was sunlight shining onto patches in the scene.

There are many avenues to explore in HDR Len. These range from outrageous, almost Warhol style imagery right down to very subtle and barely noticable. For the most people seem to use it as an effect and therefore a more prominent 'look' to the pic.
It works really well with wood and, as Merv said, with images of greater contrast. But it can be used almost anywhere if used as a subtle enhancement. I used to use it with some of my portraits, but I have now done some actions which do the same result for me.
It does indeed look like a nice bright scene. To give us an idea could you post an image without the HDR applied?
Another point is movement. Some guys will create an HDR from a single RAW file and others from multiple images with exposures bracketed. If there is any wind the always opt for the single RAW file unless you want to show movement.

Cheers buddy. If it were an image with no info whatsoever it kind of reminds me of some of the field postcards we used to print many years ago for John Hinde.

Cheers Guys

I appreciate all your comments.

This really was an experiment for me to see how HDR shots are processed as It was my first attempt and something to do on a Sunday evening. Maybe next attempt will produce something different.

Hi Len,

First off, let me welcome you to the wonderful world of HDR! You have a nice capture there, and a good starter image. You have managed to enhance the yellow in the crops, but unfortunately the sky is still a little 'plain' so the HDR effect isn't really that strong.

Personally, i would have pushed the contrast/saturation more in the sky to make theose cracking clouds stand out a bit more, and with some adjustment this could have then added a little more foreground contrast. Finally, as suggested before, cropping to 're-site' your horizon.

I hope you don't mind, but i have had a little play around with your image to give an example of my suggestion (obviously the overall effect is limited and a little 'dirty' due to only having the one image to work with).

All in all though, you have a nice first attempt HDR, and i look forward to seeing more.

Paul

Preferred the undercooked version, all been said but you can overdo the colours. Personal choice and all that.......

Hi Len,
Like your first attempt at HDR, well done.
Think it could look a bit better if sky a bit darker, just keep playing with all the setting.
Keep up the good work.
All the best
Paul.

P.S. You have a PM
