Photographers Comments
Thames in the North Island at Sunset. Taken with 18-55mm Kit lens on my Canon 400d. I am looking for tips and advice on improving my photography. Thanks Marc

Hey there.... this, in my opinion, needs very little , if any improving.
What you have seen and captured is a captivating and eyecatching scene, the colours are dramatic and hold good contrast. I really love the foreground, the waterflats and reflections there, that irregular pattern and of course, the silhouette pylons. Stunning!
Possibly, and is only my humble opinion, possibly the sky.. as gorgeous as they are those clouds, ie dramatic & colourful...they do tend to compete with the lower part of the image. I can see why they are there, as they show environment and give a spacial quality.
I am in abit of a *crop* mode as a photographer...and enjoying very wide narrow formats. Crop the sky and the image really is ALL about the pylons and reflections....not to mention the rule of thirds then is correct. To me this would suit that awesomely, as an alternate view.
(I see it mounted, framed and hung!)
Thankyou is gorgeous

Hi Marc,

What's a Yorky doing in Kiwiland?

I know the area quite well and this a lovely shot. Great colours and exposure.
Maybe a bit of burning in the lighter parts of the sky to bring out the clouds and a little dodging on the darker parts of the clouds, again to bring out the detail.

You might also try to darken the right hand side to balance the darker left.

Cheers Rex
