Photographers Comments
Just brought myself new Nikon 300mm AFS f4 lens, so had to give it a test.

I prefer wildlife with nothing manmade in the shot, that's the serious bit.
That lens looks to have been a good purchase, nice and sharp, very good.
A lot of the birders use it with a 1.4x teleconverter, apparently that gives better results than a 1.7 or 2x.

Hi Merv, Yes I also brought the 1.4TC to go with it, so hopefully I will get some good Red Kite Photos this summer.

Hi Barry

Great shot one question what distance did you shoot from.

Reason for question just purchased a tamron 70-300 F4-5.6 lens.

Also thinking of a converter.

Len

Hi Len, I was about 3 meters away, shooting from kitchen window using a monopod, this image was cropped from original. This is one of the reasons why I brought this lens as opposed from a longer one (it produces very sharp images so that you are able to crop in and still get a good image).

Hello Barry, this is a brillant photo. This bird lives in our country, also, but very hard to make shot from him. I like the pose, colors and the sharpen details. Only one suggestion, try to use the shadow/highlight tool of PS to balance some strong light effect between the bird and the dark background. But this is only my opinion, all of us has other taste.

Best regards
cleano

I would say this is a cracker mate. Maybe a dab of noiseware for the background. One of my fav little feathered dudes. See them in small flocks around here very rarely, going from bush to bush.

Thanks TCO and Bev, to be honest I had not noticed the noise in the background until you mentioned it, I will at some point over the weekend have a play and rectify that.
