Default Cranborne Chase

Photographers Comments
Cranborne Chase is an area of downs, rolling hills, big skies and fields of corn situated south east of Shaftesbury in southern England. A good sky was nicely set off by scattered pools of light in the fields ...... what I'd have given for a bit of light on that distant field over on the far left but hay-ho you cant have everything.

Great use of a very interesting sky. It adds drama to the shot. Art

When i see pictures like this, it begins to explain to me why the English people felt comfortable settling in central Alberta, where I grew up. You will see alot of rolling hills and parklands like this. Well, you have very nice light in the immediate foreground, which I think really helps to compensate.

Very nice shot. Good composition, and great colours. Did you use a wide angle lens? It usually gives a nice dramatic sky like that.

Rob, it was the Sigma 10-20mm, it's quickly become just about my fav lens. I have a Canon 17-40mm which was my usual landscape lens but I needed something just a bit wider than the 27mm equivalent it gave me on my Canon 20D, hence the Sigma. I can look out the full details when back at base if you are interested. There's bit of a crop off the bottom to remove a rather ugly barbed-wire fence.

Cheers, Dave.

Dave

Thanks. I thought it might be the Sigma, I have one too - it's a great lens. Try using it close up to subjects - especially big ones like buildings - you can get a really weird distortion if you get it right. I just bought a Sigma 50-150mm as well, and that seems to be great so far. Cost about £550 though.

Rob
