Lots of interest here. I think that the waves on the water and seeing how the wind is turning the leaves, adds that extra garnish or sparkle/life to the image. Certainly can't say that the lighting is flat!...lots of pleasing movement of light and dark. Like your vantage point and how you have the bottom framed. Finding the background hills a little underexposed, however, it is broken up by the whiteish line of building sites. If there had more clouds on the right, it would have left the image more balanced, cause the eye tends to go up to that vastness of blue but to compensate the little splashes of crimson, does help to hold the eye down.

Fay,
Thankyou for such an in-depth, helpful critique!
After thinking about your comments, I am wondering if a slightly tighter crop might improve this image - the splash of colour from the sail was what attracted me to take this photo in the first place, and I would like that to be the main focal point for the eye to gaze out from .... maybe I'll try another crop and see if I like it better!
Thankyou again!
Lenita
