Default Hummingbird flight

Photographers Comments
OK guys- i have been struggling with getting hummingbird flight images. This was shot with a Canon 40D, 400 Lens, speed lite , tripod. 5.6 f #,125 exp time, ISO 100, Metering mode partial, shutter speed 1/128. It was early am and foggy out. In Post processing I sharpened slightly and cropped the picture, and a slight vignette. I lack the sophisticated lighting set up equipment to get great images, ie strobes , multiple lights etc. Any suggestions to improve on this with limited equipment and not so good lighting conditions?

I have had a look on another site that I belong to & checked the EXIF data on the hummingbird shots & most Cannon ones were taken at f5.6 with either 125 or 160th, so what you are doing apears to be correct, it can really just depend on the available light. The feeder is really crisp< so possibly make you mane focus point mid body on the bird>
(As we dont get these beautys, I can only guess)

Thanks Pete- these are a challenge I must say. There is such little time to make camera adjustments as these fellows are not still for very long at all. I am dealing with not very good available light at all so maybe will just have to wait until the sun comes out- may be awhile before that happens in Oregon. If nothing else I am developing great patience in trying to capture this little birds. Thanks again.....
