Nice shot mate, could crop out the left a bit though and draw the eye in to Robin a bit. It is very difficult to shoot birds perfectly as you cannot move position without frightening them and have to use a long lens so shake is always a problem. It would have been good to have got down to the birds level a bit more rather than looking down on it but chances are you would not get any shot if you moved. I went out and tried to catch a kingfisher with a 500 mm lens the other day - saw them streak past but not a hope in hell of getting a cool shot. Will try again early morning one day!

I'm gonna pack a flask and food next time I visit this location. There were all sorts of birds there, but with weather permitting I can practice a lot more. Yes it would have been great to get down on the birds level, and as you say, they so timid, so I move then they scarper.....
I've never really got to photographing birds and taking a real interest in them until the last couple of days. Definite project for this year.
Andy, a big thanks for your input on these images, I really do appreciate it

one more tip, - if you are on location take a rug and shoot lying down - you have heard the expression birds eye view, well that doent always mean from the sky. get to the eye level of the bird/animal and you will see them from a different perspective. Also it will be easier to avoid shake as you can support the lens by leaning the end of it on your camera bag and then you will have more movement ability with your camera allowing you to re compose quicker.
- a tough project but very rewarding.

Hi Mark ... what a beautiful little bird .. they are hard to photograph ... I tried once this year and have to go out again .. with some birdseed ... that is always good to take along to bring them to a spot that you are focused on ... lol. It's a nice treat for them and a easier capture for you ..lol.
Cheers
Else
