I really enjoy the way you capture the shadows and highlights in your images and this is no exception. It's always good to see a photo with that detail!

I'm not sure about the composition though sorry Fay, There seems to be a lot of angles in the lines leaning to the left and right and I can't quite make out where my eyes need to be looking. My eyes are first drawn to the blue rope near the centre then off to the little piece near the top right.

If I was to change anything, I would have opened that gate if it was possible, panned to the left so there would have been an opening where the gate was using the tree on the right (much tighter to the right side) and the leaves on the floor as a natural frame so my eyes are drawn into that wonderful landscape in the distance.

hi Paul,...that's what I wanted find out...was wondering how the lines were affecting others, also wondering if that piece of blue twine would annoy anyone. It was private property; initially I was there, on my belly under a barbed wire fence taking pictures of new buttercups, which officially makes it spring here.

barbed wire? You just wait until TCO finds out

It can be hard to comment on an image like this only being able to see what is in the photo and not knowing anything of the surroundings and situation such as the location being private land.

I hope I helped with the lines and the blue twine and sorry to recompose the image.

Keep up the good work, just wish we had the weather here to get out a lot more with the camera.

Hi Fay,
there are 3 vertical lines, near full length, very close to the centre of the photo which virtually slice it in half.
You (I) can't look at the photo as a whole, I look through the gate to the background, then have to back up to get around the centre, look through the fence and run into a tree. The blue rope was also immediately apparent.
I'll still be interested to read a female view on this though, I heard an interior designer on TV say "Girls like cluttered, Boys like clean". I imagine the girls response could be totally different.

hey Merv...I knew it wasn't right but didn't know why. Your explanation was great!..My husband is SO comfortable with clutter; it makes me depressed. But I will admit that doesn't come across in my photography...you should see that one I did tonight...a shot of 'bush'
