Shooting through glass is not the best idea but in this case coiuld not be avoided. These are the neatest little birds-very fun to watch.

Hi Mary, I like the composition of the shot, shame about the twig at the end of his beak and having to shoot it through glass, has dulled it slightly. There is a way of shooting through glass and maybe one of the technical bods could shed some light on it, as i'm keen to know how too.

Thaks Lorraine for your comments. I should have cloned that bit of twig on his beak. Someone told me a way to shoot through glass is to get right next to the glss. I did that in this shot but not to much avail. Today I was ready for the little birds- right lens, window freshly washed, camera settings appropriate (I think) but alas no birds. I'll get this yet. One of the challenges of hummingbirds is that they are easily spooked and just do not stay in one area very long- mostly measured in seconds so one must be prepared for their very brief appearances.

The composition is excellent & I find the soft effect is very interesting. Lorrine is right, the twig is a bit annoying. Did you try to use the prorolising filter?
