Long Tailed Tit close up
Photographers Comments
I have been trying to get some close up shots of these today.Does this work? If I had included the tail then it wouldnt have had the same impact I feel.

Charlie, I'm in awe...it was the colors that brought me in.!!...unusual birdie position ( unusual, in the sense that we don't see many pictures showing this). Wonderful detailing on the foot. I'm not that kowledgeable of a photographer but I don't understand why, with a F8.0, you focus would drop off at the tail area. Having all the tail in the image would have been better....still a treat to view.

What a super capture of this lovely little Tit. (They are quite rare down here, at least I haven't seen them for years).

Wow Charlie! great close up of one of the most prettiest of the smallest birds, the details great and i can see where Fay is coming from on the aperature setting, but i agree with your comment re the tail being enclosed as this birds greatest features are its stout, rounded quite fluffy heads.

Thanks all for your comments. I am on the right track then. Funnily enough I did not put my hide in place with a view to taking these wee birds. Woodcock are the quarry!I got so fed up with someone banging away that you "really need a 500f4 +2xconvertor to get decent shots of small birds" I just had to have a go to see how I got on.One problem when you are this close (between 5& 6feet) is shutter noise. They seem to get used to it after a while. Anyway enough of me ranting on. Thanks again folks.

Very nice close up, I was trying the other day to get one of this type of bird but it was inside of a cage-feeder.I think I would have taken the shot a bit further away so that the long tail was shown and then transformed the image so that it was showing all closer.

Pin sharp where it matters, good detail and colour, nice pose from the bird with a good angle of view. My personal preference would be to have the tail in the shot and complete the bird, even with the drop off in focus.
