Good subject Loopy and composition. Try to get down as low as you can to add some pebbles to the forground. It needs a little bit more contrast. A great shot well done.

I looked at this the other day and could not make my mind up about it. But having looked again I think it needed to have been slightly looser and yes lower or go in for some detail the texture the patterns of a section of this stump.. I agree the contrast on this also need a tweak.

Alan, Nik, thank you for taking a peek and your advice. I felt quite embarrased Saturday when out shooting, first time with my new SLR in public, took the tripod etc, didn't really feel confident in what i was doing re: buttons etc and didn't quite know what to do with this stump - need to learn how to relax and not be so self concious LOL. Bigger than me it is, not that that's hard lol. But doubt it'll be going far, so plenty of time to go back and master something creative

Hi Lorraine, agree with the others on this one, but you did get the sea 'level' . And remember to relax, don't just rush in and take a photo, walk around your subject looking at it from various angles and looking to see whats in the background, once you have found your shot, then set the tripod up. Don't make the mistake of setting up the tripod first and just plonking your camera on the top.
