This is as straight from the camera...before editing. What I want to know...Is this composition a mess?...am wondering about the positioning of gate posts...also about the stuff on the upper right...should that be cropped. Im open to hear everything...want to get some ideas before editing. Could I have composed it better from the camera?....give it to me straight...

Hi Fay,
I think this would have been better as a portrait rather than a landscape shot. The grass on the left side distracts a bit and as the posts are pointing up the wide shot they conflict with the wide view. You have certainly got the exposure right and I like the colours. What do you think?
Cheers Rex

Hi Fay....what are you trying to do to me?........you know I can't do these low down shots...yet! LOL
Personnally I would crop making the posts the feature....mainly on the LHS and on the right to remove the distraction coming in on the side. This way you would also still have the drama from the mountains and sky.....so basically what Rex said lol.
As for composing it better from the camera, I think you did a good job here...I find it's always better to have a bit of leeway for post work anyway.
Hope that helps...Diane

Thanks ladies...I'm beginning to feel my fog lift. I knew something was wrong but couldn't put my finger on it. For starters that one post seems SO central...if I crop off the unnecessay on the left, that really gets that post off the middle.
Now, what about that piece of weed in the upper right...should that go or is it okay?

I think you should have been standing a little taller, the foreground feature (the posts) shouldn't take up so much of the frame I feel.
It seems that the fence is in the way of the view, where it could be look at the view over this fence.

I see what you are saying Merv....at the time I was in love with the grasses and and posts...but there now seems to be a competition between the foreground and the background.......Just got an idea..hmm...maybe if I had chosen a more shallow depth of focus, to simplify the background into just nice framing colors.
Just now, i scrolled down so that most of the sky was cropped and the post went to the top of the frame, ..it really does quiet down the image and brings focus in to the gate and wire....but now I see that I should have included more at the bottom so that it doesn't look so chopped.
thanks merv....the fog is lifting....great learning experience!
