Default Cave Straw in Ogof Ffynnon Ddu

Photographers Comments
This cave straw is above 6 cm long and about 5mm diameter, they continue to drip steadily, each time a drip falls it leaves behind a small amount of calcite which in turn makes the straw grow longer. But this takes many years.

The image was taken using a Canon G7 handheld with a flash being fired from about a meter away on the left hand side.

Hi Diane, these straws are in a very vulnerably position, so yes some of them may well have got broken . But as they are so close to you we are able to get up close like this to take these photos . There are a lot more within this cave that have been taped off so that they can only been viewed from a distance - but at least they are safe to live their little life's in peace .

I wonder do the straws grow into stalignites ... nope ... not spelled right.
Looks very delicate and nicely lit to show it's stuff.
