Default A most accommodating bird

Photographers Comments
The Chaffinch always appears ready to have its portrait taken. This one has its own sun shade.

Nice capture, Peter - have been trying for ages to capture birds using the TZ5 compact but with little success at the moment - but I will keep trying.. LOL

Loving the sunshade for this little fella... LOL

Thanks Mark, I'm sure bird photography is not easy for you with that camera. I have a Olympus C5050Z which is a great camera with superb fast lens but I had to progress to a DSLR and interchangeable lens' to get the reach required, even from the nature reserve feeding station hide. Now with the Nikon and a 300mm lens I'm finding great limitations on the reserves. Most birds are extremely wary of us human animals. I'll keep filling in the lottery tickets

Really nice capture Peter, I think unless you can set up a feeder and hide somewhere that disturbance can be kept to a minimum you need longer lenses than most of us mere mortals have. This is very nice.

Hi Peter, nice shot of the chaffinch quite sharp too. I use a 300mm lens for Birds and quite often find the lens is to short so I guess it's down to a waiting game I can't afored a bigger one cheers Peter.

Thanks all for your kind comments on the Chaffinch image. I like it and that's not the norm because I'm very critical of my photos and seldom think of them fit for the wall.
Now I'm no bird expert Dave so tell me - how do you distinguish it as a 'juvenile' . When I first started going to the reserves which is not long ago I didn't even know a coot from a moor hen.
